The course provides students with a comprehensive view of media and entertainment companies and their impact on society. It examines the history of media entertainment as well as their roles in the formation of American sociologic and cultural attitudes. The course will review the evolutionary changes in media and entertainment from the 19th century to present and will include how movements like #OscarsSoWhite, #MeToo, and #TimesUp have changed the industry. Students will gain behind-the-scenes knowledge of film, television and TV news companies, who owns and runs them, what products they make, how digital and print media participate in the process and analyze the transition from legacy media to new media.
