In this year long course the student will develop a technique that is individual, yet grounded in fundamental dramatic writing skills. During the first semester, students will write weekly scenes, and be guided through exercises to develop facility with storytelling, plotting, stage action, dialogue, and thematic unity. During the second semester, students will select one or two scenes from the first semester and develop a longer play (45-55pages) that grows out of this selected scene utilizing the fundamentals we’ve been developing. In addition, students will produce staged readings of 10-minute plays in both semesters in order to build basic tools for successful collaboration and explore the relationship between playwright and audience.
