ART 321 Junior Art Seminar
The Junior Art Seminar provides Art majors with an opportunity to advance their studio practice and build skills in research, writing, critique, and exhibition. Individual and group practice-based projects focus on identifying common themes across visual art disciplines, exploring alternative methods and materials, and interrogating each step of the production process from initial concept through research, production, critique, exhibition, and reflection. The role of private and public art spaces, issues of equity, diversity, and inclusion, and the relationship between expressive intention and social impact are investigated as integral factors in defining a personal aesthetic sensibility. Site visits, readings, guest lectures, and discussion are used to examine the theories and issues that inform the discourse on contemporary art and design. The course culminates with a Junior Art Exhibition in the Hewitt Gallery of Art.
