ART 307 The Contemporary Portrait
This upper level painting course examines contemporary approaches to the genre of portraiture. Direct observation of models and the use of photographic references provide the base to explore the intersection of form, concept and meaning. Students are encouraged to experiment with scale, perspective, pictorial organization and process. Group critiques serve as a forum to address contemporary issues and practices in painting. Image lectures, visits to current exhibitions, demonstrations, readings and research will complement the studio investigations. Additional lab fee applies.
