AIP 344 Medievalisms: Past and Present (CP)

In this interdisciplinary seminar-style course, students will explore the many ways that artists, writers, performers, theorists, political figures, and other individuals from the sixteenth century to the present have used the Middle Ages to reinvent the art and culture of their own time. The course takes a critical look at how the Middle Ages has been interpreted and reinterpreted using various cultural forms. Through course reading, guest lectures, class trips to local institutions and events, and independent research, students will analyze critical texts, as well as various artistic forms, such as films, plays, music, images, videogames, architecture, and performances.
