COMM 230 Cultural History of Media

This course provides an overview of the cultural history of media from the origin of writing to the rise of television broadcast networks. Old and new forms of communication are put in a comparative framework to understand how culture relates to technology. Topics include the theories of Socrates and Plato, responses to the printing press, the advent of media industries, and the impact of the 20th century media culture on the individual and society.
