MUS 218 Beginning Songwriting
A songwriting class for those with no previous experience making songs. We'll explore sources and functions of song – messages, wishes, dreams, emotions, histories, stories, events, ceremonies, occasions, healing, memory, community-making, etc. We’ll listen to, learn and analyze songs from an array of cultures. Entry-level skill-building in melody, rhythm, and musical form through specific application to the songwriting process. Students in the class should be willing to sing, even if inexperienced. Instrumental abilities and digital music editing skills welcome but not required. Additional materials fee applies.
