MUS 205 Introduction to Twentieth Century Music

An introduction to the music of our century from 1910 to the present. Emphasis will be placed on the music of Stravinsky, Bartok, Schoenberg, Hindemith, Debussy, Britten and Shostakovitch. A portion of the course will be devoted to American composers (Ives, Gershwin, Copland, Barber and Bernstein). Classes will include live performances as well as guest lectures.
