IS 324 United Nations: History, Theory and Practice
This course will focus on the history, structure, purposes, and functions and of the United Nations as an international organization transcending the narrow realms of nationalism and seeking global solutions to humanity’s problems. Starting with a differentiation of perspectives and tensions between the concepts of nationalism and internationalism, this course will outline the history and evolution of the U.N., describe its internal structure, and review the various purposes of the different U.N. agencies. The course will examine the challenges and possibilities for the U.N. in a globalizing world.
