2022-2023 Catalog

COMM 348 Digital Journal of Ideas and Culture

In this course, students will be involved in the creation of Marymount's digital journal of ideas and culture. Students will have the opportunity to solicit content, generate their own copy, and select and edit pieces for publication. In addition, students will develop a mission statement, craft press releases, design a website, manage social media, and lead all related editorial decision-making. This is a hands-on course for those interested in digital publishing and building related communities. Students will build their editorial knowledge by studying literary journalism, nonfiction writing and research papers. We will also study the art and technique of editing through reading essays by editors, editor-author correspondence, and original and edited texts.
