CHEM 312 Poisons, People and the Environment

This course provides a basic understanding of toxicology and the adverse effects that drugs and environmental agents have on living systems. The course is divided into five modules that will examine: 1) basic principles of pharmacology and toxicology including dose-response, structure-activity relationships, toxicokinetics and toxicodynamics, and biotransformation of xenobiotic compounds, 2) non-target organ toxicity including toxicogenomics, mutagenesis and carcinogenesis, 3) target organ toxicity and mechanisms of disease, 4) ecological and environmental toxicology, and 5) overview of common applications in pharmacology, food science and  forensic toxicology.
