ART 352 3-D Animation
This course delves into advanced techniques using professional 3-D software, with an emphasis on sculpting, modeling, and time-based animation. Areas of inquiry address compositing (customizing attributes using Nodes); application of physics (such as fire and rain); mapping textures and images on 3D models; customizing keyframes using the Dope Sheet and Graph Editor; sculpting and drawing (using the grease pencil). In addition, advanced lighting, photographic, and rendering techniques are explored as integral components. Each step of the production process—from initial concept drawing to script, storyboard, and completion of a final portfolio- quality animation—is examined through critique and discussion. Hands-on production is complemented with research of historical and contemporary animation models, presentations, demonstration, readings and discussion. Additional lab fees apply.
