ART 346 Artists’ Books

This course explores the practice of book making as a visual art medium. Students develop a series of hand-built books based on a cross-cultural exploration of the literary, poetic and fine art objects that make up the history of the book. The narrative structure may combine text and image, consist solely of image or text, however the emphasis is on conceiving the book as a visual object. Lectures, individual and group critique, demonstrations, research and written essays are integral components of the course.
