IS 341 Revolutions

Revolutions are rare but momentous where they occur, overturning political orders, restructuring societies, through protest and violence. This course will discuss some big questions regarding the politics of revolutions: what are the defining features of revolutions? What are the driving forces of revolutions, and do these change over time? What is the impact of revolution on societies? This course will examine the impact of revolutions around the world, from the French Revolution in the eighteen century to the recent Arab Spring upheaval, exploring the causes and effects of revolutions in each part of the globe.
