IS 339 Migration, Refugees, and the Global System

Millions of people across the globe leave their homes each year, escaping persecution, threats of violence or war, natural disasters, and in some cases, socio-economic deprivation. This course examines the patterns and trends in migration and refugee flows in the global system, and looks at the reasons behind why people choose to undertake these often hazardous journeys, the obstacles they face, and the systems put in place to manage these flows. This course will also explore the challenges of resolving these displacement crises, and discuss moral and ethical dilemmas raised by them.
