General Education: 42 Credits; Major: 60 Credits; Elective Credits: 18 Credits

The B.F.A. in Acting is an intensive 60-credit program focusing on performance work and acting techniques. Prospective students for the B.F.A must not only satisfy the academic requirements for acceptance to the College, but must also give strong evidence of professional promise as demonstrated through an interview and audition. The program usually requires a three-year residency at the College.

Continuation in the BFA Acting program is based on the Theatre faculty’s evaluation of each student’s progress and potential. All B.F.A students are evaluated each year and recommendations for continuation in the program are made according to the following criteria:

  • Maintenance of a 2.8 cumulative average or better in all course work and a 3.0 average or better in all major courses.
  • Participation in sophomore and junior Acting Evaluations.
  • Yearly evaluation by the student’s acting mentor in consultation with the Acting Program Coordinators.

 

Learning Outcomes for the Majors in Acting (B.F.A)

Upon completing the Acting major, students will be able to:

  • Students will analyze dramatic literature and conduct production research for several periods, including contemporary and Modern Realism, High Comedy and Shakespeare.
  • From the analysis of dramatic literature, students will actualize actions and objectives that can be played moment-to-moment.
  • Student will play these actions integrated with physical and vocal depth.
