THTR 112 Wardrobe and Styling

This course introduces students to the concepts, knowledge, skills, and responsibilities associated with wardrobe, styling, and costumes for live entertainment. Combining lessons in basic sewing, fabric identification, clothing care, wardrobe, and styling practices with laboratory experience, students will gain a fundamental understanding of the key costume needs of production. Issues concerning safety, union rules, proper shop etiquette and terminology, and Theatrical Intimacy, and Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion in costuming will be addressed. In addition to the weekly formal class session of 2.5 hours, students will complete 20-60 hours of practical laboratory work in the running of either a mainstage or Box Theatre production. Theatre and Acting majors who wish to take this course for their Stagecraft requirement must complete additional hours of lab time.
