DANC 349 Jazz III

This is a five-day-a-week studio-based course offering an advanced study of Jazz as an American dance form. This course aims to improve and expand upon previous and concurrent dance training by focusing on multiple aspects of Jazz Dance, including concert dance, choreography, improvisation, and social/vernacular techniques. The class will explore traditional, improvisational, and contemporary ideas of Jazz Dance. Students will analyze and recreate choreographic phrases incorporating stylistic differences appropriate to Jazz's diverse ideologies. Through this course, students will gain a deeper understanding of Jazz Dance's defining characteristics and aesthetic qualities and an appreciation for its roots, history, and continuity. Through performance and portfolio processes, students will explore their own expressive and creative possibilities while making connections to the concert jazz dance form.


This course may be repeated up to 12 credits. Additional lab fee applies.
