EWL 339 Money, Money, Money: Literature and the American Dream
This course examines the representation of money, labor, and business in American literature from the nineteenth century to the present. The course uses the lens of money and its acquisition to explore the ways in which literature both contributes to and critiques the myths and practices that govern business and wealth in the U.S., and the specific ways in which these practices connect to issues (and perceptions) of poverty, debt, race, gender, class, income inequality, consumerism, religion, natural resources, and social conflict.
