This is a studio course that explores traditional dance forms of the African continent, the rich diversity of African Diasporic Dance, the foundational role Africanist Aesthetics played in the creation of the vernacular dance styles of the Americas, and the power of contemporary street and social dance techniques. The course will explore the rich history and multi-faceted contexts of these movement techniques through readings and written assignments as well as through a daily movement practice. This course may be repeated up to 12 credits. Additional lab fee applies.
