THTR 307 Dialects for the Stage

In this technique-focused course, the students learn a process for acquiring dialects and applying them to a dramatic text of the student’s choice. Building on THTR 202 and THTR 203, students will apply and expand their knowledge of the International Phonetic Alphabet, as it relates to dialect acquisition. To ensure success in acquiring dialects, the student will refine their practical knowledge of areas of resonance and rhythm, as well as continue to develop the flexibility and strength of their articulators. Students will investigate cultural and historical influences that had an impact on the dialects investigated. Additional lab fee applies.
