THTR 208 Dramatic Storytelling
This one-semester course centers story as the foundation of dramatic writing by exploring the purpose of stories, how they are experienced by audiences, and how dramatists can use that knowledge to better communicate their truths. Through readings and viewings, students will learn how Character, Theme, Action, Structure, and Plot interact to tell compelling, relatable stories in various mediums, including but not limited to: film, television, video games, documentary theater, podcasts, audio dramas, and the oral tradition. Geared toward writers but open to all content creators, students will have the chance to workshop original stories and ideas in multiple mediums culminating in the creation of a final piece in the medium of their choosing.
