IS 209 Global Practice Lab

Students will examine diverse career possibilities in international and global fields, through engagement with professionals, skills training, simulations and attending international/global meetings and other events in NYC.  Professionals from NYC organizations such as the United Nations, Asia Society and Council for Foreign Relations will share their work and career trajectories - as well as conduct trainings for the skills necessary in their fields. Additional skills will be learned in classroom settings such as conflict mediation; group facilitation; writing white papers; project management, and; design thinking, among others. Students will attend meetings, conferences and gatherings throughout the semester to gain a wider understanding of issues, careers, and organizations involved in international and global work. United Nations Simulations will be used to develop policymaking, coalition building and other diplomatic skills. Lastly, based on the above experiences, students will prepare cover letters and CVs and apply for NYC-based global internships.
