HIST 332 History of Comics and Cartoons

Editorial cartoons, comic strips, comic books, and graphic novels represent different formats for combining script and images for the purpose of entertainment and social commentary. The focus of this course is on the historical development of the comics medium from the 18th century to the present-day, with an emphasis on the emergence of modern genres in the 19th and 20th centuries. Lectures and class discussion will be supplemented by film screenings, guest lecturers, and field trips.
