Guidelines for Expanding Your Degree
To facilitate students’ exploration of the latest developments in their field or more than one field, the College has established the following guidelines regulating the completion of degree requirements:
- Students generally follow degree requirements in effect at the time of their admission to MMC, although, with the advice of a faculty advisor, students may opt to follow revised program requirements that reflect changes that occurred during their time in attendance. Students must obtain the permission of the Assistant Vice President & Dean of the Center for Academic Excellence in order to follow the requirements of a catalogue other than their admission/readmission catalogue.
- Students may use an individual course to fulfill multiple requirements across dual majors, minors, and the general education curriculum unless they are pursuing only one major and no minor. In cases in which students are pursuing only one major and no minor, they may not use an individual course to fulfill both a major requirement and a general education requirement. Students may not major and minor in the same discipline.
- Students completing requirements leading to a B.A. degree and a second major leading to a B.S. degree will elect either the B.A. or the B.S. to be awarded. Although two fields of study will be indicated on a student’s transcript, only one degree will be awarded. Only one diploma will be issued to the student.
- Under New York State regulations, a student may receive only a single Bachelor’s degree from MMC. Once a degree has been conferred by the College, a student cannot re-matriculate. We welcome our alums to supplement their degrees as returning non-degree students.
