SW 204 Power and Difference
Drawing from both theoretical and personal sources, this course seeks to heighten each student’s awareness and appreciation of our human differences. Understanding our diversity will also make our commonalities more apparent. Students will explore how ideology, as well as public and private discourse, constructs issues related to race, ethnicity, class, religion, gender, sexual orientation, age and differing abilities, and how each of these concepts works in combination with others to weave a complex web of human behaviors. Power and authority will be featured elements in discussions of identity formation and social dynamics. Course will be taught from a social work perspective, highlighting the consequences of racism and privilege for everyone in a community.
