MUS 316 Music Supervision and Licensing

In this introductory course students learn the process by which music is combined with several types of visual media including television, films, advertisements, movie trailers, and video games. The field of music supervision is a bright spot in the music industry over the past decade since it has helped the industry make up for declining revenues, while also serving as an alternative form of marketing. Students study this arena where music and visual media businesses meet, and learn key aspects of music licensing, focusing on the major differences between record labels and music publishers. This course provides the content and skills that would enable students to be qualified for an internship in music supervision and licensing, or for further study in music marketing and the music business.
