EWL 217 Rebirth and Reform: The Early Modern Era
Although this period is frequently called the "Renaissance," meaning a "re birth," it was also a time of significant upheaval politically, philosophically, economically, and religiously. The rising technology of the printing press changed how information was delivered, consumed, and understood. In this class we will look at some of the major debates and questions of the age and see that the literature, art, and arguments of the time were fraught with these tensions. This course usually includes a visit to the Morgan Library and the Frick Museum.
