THTR 408 Medieval Performance

This course takes a broad historical approach to medieval performance across Europe during the long Middles Ages (c. 500-1500).  In addition to examining the major performance traditions from this period, and how those traditions influenced larger cultural and social trends, the course also examines the continuation of medieval performance into the present, both in Europe and the United States.  Students will examine play texts, stage designs, art and manuscripts, production and management records, and other forms of evidence as part of their coursework.
