AIP 308 Comics, Cartoons and the Graphic Novel (CP)

Editorial cartoons, comic strips, comic books and graphic novels represent different ways of combining script and images for the purpose of entertainment and/or social commentary.  With the exception of editorial cartoons, each is associated with children’s entertainment but may be aimed at adult audiences as well.  The focus of this course will be on the history, politics, and formal aspects of these related media. Lectures and class discussion will be supplemented by film showings, guest lecturers, and field trips to galleries and more.
