Students in this course learn conventional musical terminology, as well as elements of music history and music theory that most closely relate to dance, in order to explore: musical form in relation to dance movement; the effects of musical style on dance movement; musicality as perceived by performer and audience; and choreomusicology. The course requires analytical written and oral assignments, compositional exercises involving movement and sound, and analysis of audio and visual media.
