TThis course examines elementary dance principles by studying the specific discipline of classical ballet. Students must have prior knowledge of ballet or successfully complete DANC 140 Ballet I for Non-Majors to be placed in this course. Instruction of basic movement sequences is strategically introduced to challenge and increase students’ knowledge of form and musical phrasing. Focus is given to the study of postural alignment, continued development of French ballet terminology as well as exploring skills in writing self-evaluations. The development and understanding of proper execution while working toward strength and stamina, culminates in a presentation of a choreographed solo at semester’s end. This course may be repeated once for a total of (4) credits. May be combined with a 2nd Non-Major (2) credit class to be accepted as a Gen Ed DS1.
