Learning Goals for the Major in Urban Environmental Sustainability
Students majoring in Urban and Environmental Sustainability will:
- Integrate perspectives from the natural sciences, social sciences, and humanities to define sustainable approaches to environmental problems.
- Identify how globalization affects the environment.
- Relate environmental sustainability to social justice.
- Devise ideas for sustainable energy source policy and climate resilience.
- Demonstrate an understanding of New York City infrastructure and its associated environmental concerns.
- Employ the theory and methods of the natural and social sciences to solve problems on local to global scales.

Majors should consult with affiliated faculty to design their program and discuss options to fulfill their capstone through internships, independent study, or faculty-guided research. Those who take Quantitative Reasoning (MATH 113) to satisfy their math foundation requirement should elect QR: Mathematics of Sustainability.
