Policy on Illness and Attendance

A student should stay home when feeling unwell. They can return to class and activities when they are feeling better, haven’t had a fever for the past 24 hours, and haven’t needed fever-reducing medicine for 24 hours. Studentsshouldreach out to their professors to keep them updated and aware of their sickness, missing class, and timeline to return. In the case of respiratory illness, the CDC recommends wearing a mask at least 5 days after feeling better. Students should review the attendance policy of a given course to see how the instructor handles absences. Instructors are not expected to allow a student to attend an in-person class via Zoom, and instructors are not expected to teach additional hybrid or online sessions to accommodate individual student absences. For illnesses lasting more than ten days, MMC students should contact the Student Success Advising Office at advisement@mmm.edu to discuss options including medical withdrawal for the semester. NYC Scholars should contact nycscholars@northeastern.edu to discuss options including medical withdrawal for the semester.
