PSYCH 318 Stress and Coping

A theoretical and practical introduction to stress processes and coping behaviors. The course explores the social, biological, behavioral, and clinical theories that guide our understanding of stress and coping. We will study testable interventions for managing stress and mitigating its negative effects. This course is designed to provide a study of the field of stress and coping, through lectures, discussion of readings, student projects and presentations. We will cover a range of topics, including: the neurobiology of stress, disease and mental illness, daily and chronic stressors, and moderating factors influencing stress and coping such as the pandemic, gender and culture. Students will also learn and practice evidence-based stress management techniques and therapeutic strategies.
