Academic Conflict of Interest Policy

2024-2025 Catalog

Faculty have an obligation to act within guidelines that prohibit actual or potential conflicts of interest. An actual conflict of interest occurs when a faculty member’s personal interests could influence their treatment of a student, potentially leading to unfair grading, preferential treatment, or other biased actions. Faculty must prioritize student academic progress above their own personal gain. As a result, faculty members cannot engage in any transactions including financial or otherwise with a student. Faculty, who are concerned that a conflict may exist, or who are uncertain as to the effect or appearance of their activities, should always consult with their Department Chair, Division Chair, or Program Coordinator prior to engaging in the activity. Failure to do so may result in disciplinary action.
