HIST 255 American Women’s History
This course will examine the changing roles, status, images, and self-consciousness of women in America from colonial times to the present. Emphasis will be placed on the impact of industrialization on women’s lives. Among themes to be discussed will be the cult of domesticity as it applied to factory, pioneer, and slave women i the early nineteenth century, sexuality in the Victorian age, theory and action of the women’s rights movement, and images and realities for twentieth-century women.
