PS 262 Multiculturalism and Democracy

This course considers the relationship between democracy and multiculturalism in the United States. It examines both the strengths and weaknesses of American democracy and explores whether and how people rule. The course examines how the definition of democratic citizenship has created exclusions based on categories of race, ethnicity, nationality, language, culture, gender and sexuality. Students will study competing perspectives on the meaning of multiculturalism.
