MUS 365 Film & Media Scoring

This course offers an introduction to music composition for film/video in digital media formats. It is designed to enable students to create music that engages moving images, storytelling, visual design and dramatic form. The course has three principal goals: an analytical understanding of the functions of music in the context of film/video; application of artistic techniques and approaches of film/video music composition; and training in industry-standard technology and workflow for film scoring (currently: Pro Tools with MIDI capabilities). Students will listen critically to film music and develop an artistic toolkit that will serve their work in scoring, applying technical and compositional skills to a variety of scoring projects. May be taken two times for a total of 6 credits, but the topic may not be repeated. Additional lab fee applies.
