SPAN 343 Survey of Latin American Literature I:  The Pre-Columbian Era to the Nineteenth Century

The course will focus on the formation of a Latin American cultural identity and on the subversion of colonial models of language and literature.  Readings will include Native American materials, Afro-Hispanic poetry, and nineteenth-century fiction.
