SOC 360 Queer Theory

his course will help students master the fundamental questions around which queer theory emerged in the United States during the latter part of the 20th-century. Through the work of Michel Foucault, Eve Sedgwick and Judith Butler we will study the ways in which the social order is constructed through the normalization and regulation of erotic relations. In addition to a thorough understanding of the work of these theorists, the course will also help students understand how this later work articulates with, challenges, and expands on those descriptions of modern life associated with the earlier work of Karl Marx and Sigmund Freud.
