PHR 330 Great Social Thinkers

In this course, a selected number of classical and contemporary social thinkers who have made major contributions to social thought will be examined. Among those to be considered are Comte, de Tocqueville, Adam Smith, Karl Marx, Max Weber, Veblen, Keyes, Freud and Michels. In addition, students will select, for purposes of a research paper, a major contemporary social thinker from the social sciences other than those discussed in class, e.g. Toynbee, Lasch, Arendt.
