IS 336 Diplomacy: Theory and Practice

Diplomacy is an essential part of the relationship between states, and an examination of diplomacy is an examination of the nature of power, and how states use power to achieve their goals. This course will introduce students to the history and practice of diplomacy, engage with contemporary diplomatic issues, and have students participate in simulated diplomatic negotiations. Students will examine turning points in history and the importance of negotiated outcomes at each of those turning points.
