HIST 101 The American Past I

This course, exploring the major events leading to the founding and development of the United States to 1877, is organized around historical and literary readings and lectures and class discussion. Among the topics covered are the Age of Discovery, the impact of the Spanish empire on American colonial development, the establishment of the thirteen colonies, the interaction of European, American, Native American, and African-American peoples, the American Revolution, the Civil War and Reconstruction.
