MUS 201 Survey of Music

2019-2020 Catalog

An historical introduction to the standard classical repertoire. Students will develop tools necessary for active listening: a basic acquaintance with several historical periods and styles, an overview of the lives and works of major composers, and grounding in aural knowledge of form. Classes include guided listening, in-class guest performances and “field trips” to concerts with pre- and post-concert discussions.
