2019-2020 Catalog

CHEM 325 Biochemistry Laboratory

This course will introduce the students to all the most common biochemistry laboratory techniques in biochemistry and will allow students to develop organizational approaches necessary to conduct laboratory research. Topics covered in this course include methods for the isolation, purification, and characterization of proteins, as well as enzyme kinetics and immune assays.  Spectroscopic techniques will be introduced in the context of protein purification and quantification. The experiments will follow a logical progression, from simple ones to increasingly complex ones in order to teach more advanced techniques and analysis; finally, gradually, the students will be required to devise their own protocols with the instructor’s assistance. Additional lab fee applies.
