SOC 209 Practicum In Social Work

(Same as PHR 209) Course provides a close examination of social work method: data collection, assessment, intervention and evaluation. It also focuses on skill development and provides an overview of the various modalities (individual, family, group and community work) used in social work practice. Students learn the value of understanding all human behavior in its environmental context. A concurrent internship in a local community based agency, which offers students direct experience in the field, is also required. The internship is intended to provide students with the opportunity to understand how agencies are organized and how they function on behalf of clients. Students will work in an agency for three hours per week throughout the semester. They will keep regular journal entries and prepare a summary report on their experience in the agency. Prerequisites: WRIT 101 & SOC 105; or permission of department [Offered: S] (4).
